The chapel was originally located on the second floor of the Administration Building. It was frequently used by the student body for church services, chapel programs, social functions, and as an auditorium for all programs and meetings. The room was 71 feet x 56 feet and could be extended an additional 29 feet by opening a set of folding doors. Every student on campus was required to attend chapel programs, Sunday school and church services. Male and female students entered the chapel by two separate, broad staircases and were required to sit on opposite sides of the chapel. The Administration Building was completely destroyed by a fire in 1923. At the time the chapel was destroyed by fire, more than four hundred graduates had received their diploma in that room. Moreover, construction on Whitley Memorial Auditorium began in order to replace the old chapel.
