This video is part of a series that documents the Faculty-Staff Awards Luncheon at Elon University that occurs at the end of the academic year in May. At the luncheon, faculty and staff are recognized for their years of service. This year’s luncheon was held in Alumni Gym. Included in all the Faculty-Staff Awards Luncheon videos, the current President discusses a number of issues and topics that relate to Elon. In this 2008 video, President Leo M. Lambert mentions topics relevant to Elon that included: the Colonnades community opened providing six different living and learning communities and seven more food venues to the campus. Lambert discusses Elon’s plan to integrate environmental sustainability into the campus’s infrastructure with the construction of Lindner Hall, which will be the most environmentally friendly building Elon has ever built. Lambert acknowledges Spring Convocation because of its recognition of the performing arts. Lambert highlights important decisions of the year: the accrediting committee’s provisional approval for the law school, with the final decision from the ABA expected in early June; and the potential for a Phi Beta Kappa chapter established in 2009. Breanna Carrie Detwiler makes history as Elon’s first Truman Scholar. Lambert ends with mentioning the most important event of the academic year - Elon’s 118th Commencement.
