This video is part of a series that documents the Faculty-Staff Awards Luncheon at Elon University that occurs at the end of the academic year in May. At the luncheon, faculty and staff are recognized for their years of service. Typically in all the Faculty-Staff Awards Luncheon videos the President discusses a number of topics that relate to Elon. However, in this video the Provost Gerald (Gerry) Francis, mentions major projects that were happening at Elon in 2000 that included: the Elon Vision Campaign, the opening of Belk Library, and the renovation of the Moseley Center. During the 1999-2000 academic year, there were two awards presented: the Distinguished Scholar Award and the Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching. The Distinguished Scholar Award was awarded to David Crowe. Leo M. Lambert presented the award to David Crowe. According to the program, hosted in Alumni Gym, the Distinguished Scholar Award recognizes excellence in scholarship as acknowledged by both the Elon community and by the larger community of the candidate’s discipline. Nominations originate from individuals holding faculty rank. Final selection is made by a sub-committee of the Faculty Research and Development Committee. The second award, the Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching was awarded to Jeffery C. Pugh. President Leo M. Lambert presented the award to Jeffery C. Pugh. The Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes annually a faculty member for his/her outstanding contributions in the classroom.
