Since dancing was frowned upon by the college administrators, the event did not resume until 10 years later. In 1931, the celebration was revived and continued for 11 years. May Day celebrations included activities such as: a mid-day dance in front of Alamance, a picnic and a carnival in the Alumni Gym parking lot (now Young Commons), an annual formal dance, and the crowning of a queen and king. May Day was not observed during most of World War ll while servicemen and women were fighting overseas. The May Day event resumed in 1944 and continued through 1964, when the last May Day celebration was held.
