This video documents the Centennial Opening Convocation with J. Fred Young as he speaks in Alumni Gymnasium on August 28, 1988 with the side camera. J. Fred Young addresses the audience on a number of topics that relate to the success of the Class of 1992 Elon College students. Specifically, in this video he discusses major topics that include: Elon students becoming independent adults; Elon College has been preparing for one hundred years for the Class of 1992; and Elon College Centennial year of celebrating. J. Fred Young is speaking to three groups which were parents, faculty, and the Class of 1992 students with a common goal: to be successful. Steps to avoid failure at Elon College are attending class, completing academic work, and not abusing alcohol. Steps to succeed at Elon College are getting to know your professors as mentors and friends, getting involved in campus activities, and becoming a contributing member within the Elon community.
