This video is part of a series that documents the Faculty-Staff Awards Luncheon at Elon College that occurs at the end of the academic year in May. At the luncheon, faculty and staff are recognized for their years of service. This year’s luncheon was held in McEwen Dining Hall. Included in all the Faculty-Staff Awards Luncheon videos, the current President discusses a number of issues and topics that relate to Elon. In this video, President J. Fred Young mentions topics that were happening at Elon in 1990 that included: recognition of retirees and guests; J. Fred Young’s barracuda fish and alternative tie; J. Fred Young’s age comparison to the new fall 1990 students; Gerald (Gerry) Francis recognition of department chairs and the ten year faculty awards; Gerald (Gerry) Francis’s humor; Barry Bradberry recognition of Thelma Cheek; J. Earl Danieley speaks about the college; Larry McCauley first director of physical plant at Elon College; and J. Earl Danieley recognition of Larry McCauley in retirement; recognition of Gene Oliver. During the 1989 -1990 academic year, the 18th Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching was awarded to Thomas S. Hendricks. President J. Fred Young presented the award to Thomas S. Hendricks. According to the program for that year, the Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes annually a faculty member for his/her outstanding contributions in the classroom. Nominations are sought from faculty, departments, and honor students. The selection is made by a committee consisting of senior faculty, honor students, and educational officials outside the College.
