This move-in day video is a reflection on first year students moving into their residence halls in August of each year. This video is presented to the parents during Parent’s Orientation on the evening of move-in day. The natural sound piece includes sights and sounds of Elon’s community moving in and welcoming students and families. Some notable places and sites include: Snoopy (Charlie Brown’s pet dog in the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz) going off to Elon with Kelly (unknown last name); this video opening with many sound bites from parents and students; dads building the bunk beds in a residence room; parents unloading new student luggage; signing in for new students; seeing student dragging a love sofa across the lawn with the new convocation chairs and stage set-up “Under the Oaks”; diversity students moving and unpacking in their residence rooms; a golden retriever chewing on a toy; diversity dad setting up new student’s computer; dad dragging a wooden box with new student’s contents; checking in area for parents; dad waving to camera; the Phoenix stuffed toy on a box; a brother playing games; Elon University flag hanging from a pole; and ending with a wide shot of Alamance building with the Elon University campus sign on the bricks. A notable song includes: “Carolina In My Mind” recorded in 1968 by James Taylor at Trident Studios and re-recorded in 1976. Taylor wrote “Carolina In My Mind” while overseas recording for the Beatles' label, Apple Records, and the song's theme reflected his homesickness at the time for his home state of North Carolina, his family, and his dog.
