This video is titled "Caring for the Elderly." The speaker is Paula Lowe from Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory in Burlington, North Carolina. Lowe spoke on June 9, 2015 in Oaks 212, McCoy Commons. Lowe discusses planning a funeral. She was a strong advocate to go online to check resources of various states in the United States about specific funeral planning (the laws vary from state to state). Hospice can create a "Health Care Power of Attorney". Paula passes around a Lowe flyer about pre-arranging funeral services. There are three parts to pre-arranging a funeral which include: vital statistics of an individual, pick out funeral arrangements offered from funeral home, and pick out the casket or urn. The funeral home will only deal with the funeral home arrangements and not anything outside of the funeral home such as flowers and church arrangements. If cremation occurs, a person needs to sign cremation papers; all Power of Attorney of Health papers are needed to be at the funeral home; and pre-arrangements are registered with the state of the deceased name. Normal casket funeral expenses range from about $9,000.00 and up. Cremation costs vary from $2,000.00 and up. There are "Green burials" in North Carolina. Lowe mentions that there are sustainable reasons and ecofriendly burials in North Carolina. Contact Jay Roberts in Snow Camp, North Carolina. In conclusion, cremations are rising in numbers and all funeral homes need to follow the state funeral laws.
