This video, titled Carol Grotnes Belk Library Groundbreaking, occurred in 1998 in the parking lot (in 2018, the parking lot is known as Young Commons). President J. Fred Young thanked the donors who made Belk Library possible. Young stated that the new library will become the home of the LaRose Resource Center. Then President Young introduced Mr. Bob LaRose, who had a special tie to the Belk Library. 00:09:37 Mr. Bob LaRose spoke about providing excellence in education. 00:10:51 Kate Hickey spoke. She said, “This new library is about breaking walls between people, services, and technology (bringing all together in the library). The library space is designed for faculty, staff, and students working together…there will be more than 100 computers in Belk Library.” She talked about the possibilities of walking around with technology that may be wireless. 00:13:20 An unknown name man spoke of the library being located in Carlton building (The home of Elon’s first library). Then he mentioned Elon Library Moving Day under the direction of Dr. J. Earl Danieley. During this move, everyone who hauled books from Carlton to the Iris Holt McEwen Library received a card for a steak dinner on Elon’s campus. And Elon College decided to shut down classes on that library move-in day. 00:16:25 Young announced the “Hard Hat Contest” student winners. The wide shot that can be seen included: Sara Peterson, Gerry Francis, and Christopher Waters. 00:17:40 The six day ground breaking ceremony began. 00:18:12 Dr. J. Earl Danieley, Kate Hickey, and Mr. LaRose broke the ground for the new Carol Grotnes Belk Library. 00:25:52 Barry Bradberry talked with Al White. All video shots were wide shots of this Carol Grotnes Belk Library groundbreaking ceremony.
