This video, titled Showcase Interviews, occurred in the McCrary Theatre, Center for the Arts, in 1994. These interviews were with Elon’s Fellows’ students who were a part of the “Senior Showcase” performance. The interviews were video recorded for the Senior Showcase Awards Ceremony (in 2018, known as the Leaders of the 21st Century) celebrating academically excellent and talented students at Elon College the Friday before Commencement. There were ten interviews conducted highlighting eleven Elon Fellows students. The first interview was done by Thomas (Tom) Erdmann, music faculty member. Erdmann discussed how Jennifer Banks was known across the campus as having a dynamic personality; playing all instruments as a world musical champion; having an energy and excitement about life; achieving a 3.99 GPA average; and being an academically excellent and a life time learner. The second interview was done by Richard McBride, Chaplain for Elon College, for Emily (unknown last name). Emily was the “Student Coordinator for Elon Student Volunteers.” McBride talked about Emily’s responsibilities and organization. The third interview was done by Kathy Lyday-Lee, English faculty member. She spoke about Doug (unknown last name). Lyday-Lee spoke of the potential of Doug and his future in the film industry. Doug was an “Honors Fellow.” The fourth interview was conducted with Catherine McNeela, music faculty member. McNeela discussed a student named Todd (unknown last name). Todd was in Elan, a jazz singing group, since it first started with Catherine McNeela. As an actor, Todd was good at communicating ideas and feelings to the audience. The fifth interview was conducted by Bill Hightower, faculty member of computing sciences. He honored student Peter (unknown last name). Peter was involved in so many activities. He was a physics and computer science major, and an Elon Tennis player. Peter had received awards for his tennis playing as a scholar athlete. The sixth interview was done with Joyce Speas, education faculty member. She discussed Alysha (unknown last name) as a teaching (education) major. The seventh interview was conducted by Christopher (Chris) Fulkerson, Associate Director of the Learning Resource Center (LRC). Fulkerson discussed Elon’s senior, Christopher Waters. Fulkerson was impressed with Waters because he was a natural leader as a student at Elon College. Waters was very organized, set his goals, and generated enthusiasm. Waters (as a freshman) stated that he talked with Fulkerson about how he wanted to get involved in video production. Waters could not obtain the classes he wanted until his Elon Sophomore year. At this point, Waters got a like-minded group of students together and organized Elon College Television (ECTV). They produced five programs a week in the first year. Waters had discussed with Fulkerson going into educational technology. The eighth interview was conducted by Fred Rubeck, faculty member in the performing arts. Rubeck discussed a student named Laura (unknown last name). Laura began in Elon’s theatre department because her friends were theatre majors. Then Laura participated in main stage theatre productions. Laura rose to stage manager of the play “Crimes of the Heart.” The ninth interview was given by Lawrence Simon, faculty member of education. Simon spoke of Alice Pulley as a Teaching Fellows student. Simon spoke of Alice’s kindness and her compassion. Alice was involved in the Elon Gospel Choir. Simon stated, “Alice will make a wonderful teacher.” The tenth interview was given by Jane Wellford, faculty member of the performing arts department. Wellford spoke of Olivia Poindexter. Poindexter’s major was human services with a minor in dance. Wellford discussed where Olivia had worked during her Elon years. “Olivia has been the patient’s friend,” stated Wellford. Wellford continued to talk about Christie (unknown last name) who majored in dance. “She is a dance teacher’s dream because she gives it back to me in a perfectly technical way.” During each interview, there was video of each student working or performing in their area of academic major.
