The four men pictured on the postcard are believed to be Elon College students. They are shown wearing suit coats, vests and pocket watches which were typical styles from the early twentieth century. They are standing in front of East Dorm. East Dorm, completed in 1890, was the second building constructed on Elon’s campus and stood on the east side of Duke building. It originally served as a dormitory for the female students at Elon. However, when West Dormitory opened in 1905-1906, East was converted to an all male dormitory. The building was demolished after it was destroyed by fire during the evening of July 4, 1966. This photographic postcard was created during the “divided back era,” which was from 1907-1914.
