The Christian Orphanage dairy barn which included a single silo was built in 1907. Children from the orphanage worked at the dairy which provided milk for the Christian Orphanage, Elon College, and a few local families. The dairy barn burned in 1930 and was replaced by a larger structure with a new silo and ‘modern milk house.’ The dairy was located on the 112.5 acre Christian Orphanage campus on the south side of the railroad in the town of Elon College (now Elon). The portion of the Christian Orphanage property (now Elon Homes for Children) that includes much of the pasture and dairy is now a part of Elon University and known as South Campus.
