On March 1, 1907, postcards began having a ‘divided back’ so that the message and address could be written on the entire backside, allowing beautiful artwork and pictures to cover the entire front of postcards. Many U.S. postcards were printed in Europe from 1907-1915 (known as the Divided Back Era), specifically in Germany, where printing methods were regarded as the best in the world. This period quickly ended with the threat of the war and the majority of postcards were no longer imported from Europe. This ‘greetings’ postcard was sent on September 12, 1910 from Myrtie to a Miss Ivie Andes in Harrisonburg, Va. Myrtie is writing to her that he/she has arrived back to Elon.
