In The Helping Process, which was delivered in South Carolina on May 17, 1976, Sigmon examines the helping process. He defines a new term, a whobody, as someone who cares, someone who stops to listen, to help and to care for people. Sigmon continues by telling a story where he asks the audience to imagine him as a registered professional nurse. Sigmon provides more examples of how to be a whobody and his personal experiences with people who truly care.
