In Sigmon's reflection, the three service-learning principles he highlights are: those being served control the services provided to them, those being served become better able to serve and be served by their own actions, and those who serve are also learners and have significant control over what is expected to be learned. He continues by providing examples of these principles and challenges he has faced pertaining to service-learning initiatives. He also makes assumptions related to those serving and being served and concludes by asking the reader questions about service-learning.
