Young Commons is located in the heart of Elon’s campus, adjacent to the Moseley Center, Belk Library, and Koury Center, in Elon, North Carolina. The grassy area is a central gathering space for students and holds many events throughout the year. The commons are named in honor of former Elon president J. Fred Young, who retired shortly before the dedication, and his wife Phyllis. During his presidency, enrollment doubled and dozens of new academic and student life programs were added.
