Martha S. and Carl H. Linder II Hall is located in the Elon Academic Village on the corner of North Antioch Avenue and East Lebanon Avenue on Elon University’s campus in Elon, North Carolina. The 30,000 square-foot building is the centerpiece of the Academic Village; it was made possible by a $2.5 million dollar gift from Elon parents Martha S. and Carl H. Linder of Cincinnati, Ohio. The hall provides offices for Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, the history and geography department, and the sociology and anthropology department. It was the first building on campus to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, with a rating of 27% more energy efficient than buildings that met traditional energy code requirements. The building features photovoltaic solar cells on the roof to generate electricity and solar thermal system for hot water. Materials were purchased from regional suppliers that contained recycled materials, and more than 90% of construction waste was diverted from landfills for recycling.
