The Vera Richardson Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life is located in the Numen Lumen Pavilion, which is a part of Elon’s Academic Village located on the corner of East Haggard Avenue and North Antioch Avenue in Elon, North Carolina. Chaplain Richard McBride acted as campus chaplain from 1984-2009. During his time here, he expanded the role of the Office of Religious Life and played a role in starting Elon Volunteers!. In 2004, the Vera Richardson Truitt Center was dedicated to “encourage students to explore their faith and the faiths of others and to go into the world to lead lives of reconciliation”. All six of her daughters attended Elon College between 1939 and 1952, and one of those daughters, Edna Truitt Noiles and her husband Douglas Noiles, gave a donation of $1,000,000 to fund new religious and spiritual life programs on campus.
