Virginia Hall is a co-ed residence hall in the Historic Neighborhood of Elon University’s campus in Elon, North Carolina. Virginia Hall was built with the assistance of a federal loan from the Federal Housing and Home Finance Agency. Sixteen contractors submitted bids ranging from $578,771 to $645,719 for the opportunity to construct the three new buildings for the school. The low bid, made by King-Hunter Incorporated, was accepted. The building featured two-room suites, each with a bath that linked to the hallways. Virginia Hall was originally an all girls dorm, but it was changed to co-ed in 1988, causing the number of students housed in Virginia to increase from 80 to 129. Although Virginia was constructed to help alleviate the overcrowding on campus, in the late 1970’s, Elon had more students than they could house, so many students were housed at the local Ramada Hotel.
