The Elon Community Church was founded in 1891 and was dedicated to the education and nurturing of students of the Christian Church. From 1891 to 1959, the church members worshiped in Elon buildings including Whitley Auditorium. In 1959, the church moved just off campus to its present day location on North Williamson Avenue.
