The Old Well is located at the southwest corner of Alamance Building and was Elon College’s first well. It was deepened to 100 feet in 1910 to supply water for the campus and surrounding town. On August 31, 1910, it was announced the well would produce over 100 gallons a minute. Once its usefulness had expired, in 1976 a brick gazebo was constructed as a gift from the class of 1926. The Old Well was the main source of water from 1889 to 1906.
