Belk Library opened in 2000 and replaced McEwen library. When Belk library opened, students and staff all helped to move the books from McEwen to Belk and stack the shelves. The library originally had 148 computers in two computer labs and a first-floor commons area. It also had twenty-one group study rooms and 570 seats. Currently, Belk houses 300,000 books, 31,000 E-books, 51,000 journals, 120 computers, academic support offices, Media services, Event and Technology Support, and the Writing Center. The library is named for Carol Grotnes Belk because of her and her husband’s contributions to the Elon Vision campaign. Funds for the library came from a five-million-dollar construction bridge loan, which was repaid with funds from the Elon Vision campaign.
