Beck Pool was built in 1970 as a part of the new physical education and athletics complex which also included Jordan Gym. The pool was named after A. Vance Beck after a gift from the Belk-Beck department stores that retired the remaining pool debt. The complex was renovated in 1994 to include the Stewart Fitness Center, new racquetball courts, a human-performance laboratory, a weight room, an exercise studio, and new locker rooms.
