The Center for the Arts was built starting November 7, 1985, and was completed in time for the 1987 school year. It was funded by the Pride II campaign and was the major building project included in the plan. The space included three performance spaces and an art gallery. There were three separate wings for music, theater, and art. These three fine arts departments also shared the space with the communications program until it moved into the renovated McEwen in 1999. The art department also left the Center in 2006 after the renovation of Arts West. The art wing was then renovated for the dance program. One of the performance spaces is a 125-seat recital hall that was named in memory of Frances Council Yeager. Another performance space has 572 seats and was named the John A. and Iris McEwen McCrary Theatre. Currently, the building houses the McCrary Theatre, Yeager Recital Hall, the Black Box theatre, the Jack White Band Room, Music rehearsal studios and practice rooms, a dance studio, set design facilities, and classrooms and academic offices.
