The McEwen building is located in the Historic Neighborhood of Elon University, off of North Williamson Avenue in Elon, North Carolina. Once the Belk Library was constructed, the McEwen building underwent renovations to transform it into a communications facility. The renovation was completed in 2000, featuring thirteen classrooms, twenty-five faculty offices, two Mac computer labs, editing bays, studios, and control rooms. Existing walls on all three floors were removed and new interior walls were added to create classrooms, studios, and offices. Additionally, the south end of the building was expanded to provide space for the television studios. Today, the building features sophisticated teaching laboratories, two high definition television studios, a control room, 13 editing rooms, an audio recording studio, and a film screening theater.
