Fonville Fountain was constructed from March 1982-August 1982. The fountain sits in Scott Plaza just outside of Alamance building, Duke building, Powell building, and Carlton building. The fountain was funded by gifts from trustee Ralph Scott, Frances Turner Fonville, and Rudy Moore Fonville. The gift from trustee Ralph Scott was in honor of his wife, Hazeleene Tate Scott. The plaza became a gathering place and was the initial home of the College Coffee tradition when it started in 1984 until it moved to Phi Beta Kappa commons in 2009.
