Lake Mary Nell is on the corner of North Williamson Avenue and Phoenix Drive on Elon University’s campus in Elon, North Carolina. The Global Neighborhood Commons, Lakeside Dining Hall, and Center for the Arts surround the lake. Originally a marsh, in 1985 it was named after Mary Nell Jennings, daughter of Maurice and Patricia Jennings who gave $100,000 toward the fine arts building adjacent to the lake. It was dredged in 1997 to make it deeper and three fountains were also added.
