The Mooney Building is located on Elon’s historic central campus on Elon University’s campus in Elon, North Carolina. The building is named for Reverend Issac Mooney by his son-in-law, trustee Michael Orban Jr. The building is home to the School of Education, with the third floor housing offices for the Center for Access and Success. The building was destroyed in the 1923 fire, but was renovated and rebuilt in the following years. During World War II, Mooney was used to house Army Air Corps, since the college population was declining and the college had open dormitories. There was a bathroom built on the third floor, with the second floor being converted into offices, and a stock room was added to the east side of the building. The first floor of Mooney was a dining hall, but later was converted to a social gathering spot with a snack shop. Prior to the Long Student Center, Mooney was where students would meet up and socialize. It has been renovated several times since then, with the most recent happening in the summer of 1999 to prepare the building for housing the School of Education. Following the renovations, the building included eleven classrooms, an observation classroom, a new curriculum resource center, two computer labs, and faculty office suites.
