The Loy Center is located on the corner of Phoenix Drive and North O’Kelly Avenue on Elon University’s campus in Elon, North Carolina. When it first opened in 1989, ten Greek organizations applied for the first six houses. Two sororities and four fraternities were the first organizations to occupy Loy Center in fall of 1989: Alpha Omicron Phi, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Sigma Pi. Their selection was based on size of membership, overall GPA, campus involvement, and community service. The center is named after Bill Loy and in memory of his wife Lib Apple Loy. The Loy’s have been lifetime residents of Elon and donated a substantive gift in order to construct the Loy Center. In May 2010, five additional Greek houses were constructed, and were opened in fall 2011.
