The Ladies Cooperative Hall, also known as New West Dormitory was a two story building on the site of present-day Sloan dormitory. Ladies Hall had 16 rooms and housed the college infirmary and offices for faculty. During the summer of 1912, President and Mrs. Harper converted a portion of their home on East College Avenue to a boarding hall for women students. They sold the house in 1913, which allowed construction of Ladies Hall. It only cost students $60-70 per year, compared to the $125 for room and board “on the hotel plan”. Ladies Hall was eventually torn down to build New Dormitory, which opened in fall of 1960.
