The Jimmy Powell Tennis Center is a 12-court complex located on the corner of East Haggard Avenue and North Antioch Avenue on Elon University’s campus in Elon, North Carolina. The completion of the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center was a major boost for the men and women’s tennis programs. The courts lie on a portion of former Elon public school property that was acquired a decade before construction. The center was dedicated to Jimmy Powell on Wednesday September 14, 1988. Each of the 12 courts is dedicated to important members of Elon’s past. In 1989, the Powell Tennis Center was among the 10 finalists for America’s Tennis Facility of the Year. Court donors contributed $10,000 per court and $15,000 per stadium court, combined with 100 donors of $1000 each made the center possible. Bleachers provide seating for 1,000 spectators, with a pavilion including a storage area, concession stand, and viewing deck.
