Following the construction of the Central Power Station on Elon University’s campus in 1907, a new well was dug to provide adequate water supply for both college and local residents. In 1923, the town of Elon dug its own well and no longer needed to rely on the college’s water system. On April 13, 1976, President Fred Young conducted a dedication ceremony during Elon’s bicentennial celebration. The dedication was of the gazebo that was built by the town of Elon College on college property.
