Alamance Building was constructed after the Fire of 1923 which burned down Old Main, the previous administration building. After the fire, efforts were immediately made to construct a new administration building, and Alamance County contributed $100,000 to the building fund. A $600,000 campaign was created, half of which would go towards rebuilds the administration building and the other half would go towards endowment. The building opened in September 1923 and was formally presented on May 27, 1924. On the west side of the building is the cornerstone from the original administration building while on the east side is the new cornerstone that was laid in May 1923. The building is 36, 240 square feet. Alamance was renovated in the summer of 1988 and the second and third floors were completely redone and housed the business school until it moved to Koury. Alamance faces Scott Plaza and Fonville Fountain and is the anchor of Elon’s historic central quad. It includes Academic Affairs, Administrative Services, Auxiliary Services, Bursar, Business, Finance, and Technology, English, Institutional Research and Assesment, Provost, Registrar, Student Life, and Sustainability.
