East Dorm was the first residential building to open at Elon and the second building to be built on campus. East Dormitory held the original dining hall until 1906, when one was opened up in West Dormitory. East housed all women until 1906 when West Dormitory was completed, and after that housed all men. In 1966, after the completion of Hook, Brannock, and Barney Halls, East Dormitory was going to be renovated and turned into faculty and administrative offices. However, due to a fire over the summer and the damages that came with it, East Dormitory was torn down.
