The Home Economics Demonstration House was opened in the Fall of 1960 on West College Avenue behind the Kernodle House in what was previously the parsonage home for the Elon Community Church. Home Economics majors lived there for six weeks during their senior year with a professor. The majors took turns with responsibilities for food, house décor and maintenance, and hospitality. During the 1962-63 school year, six seniors lived in the house full time and prepared their meals with a budget of 90 cents a day.
